Cayman Island's Government postpones Data Protection Law until September 2019

3 December, 2018

In a Government press release at the end of November (click Download PDF to access the release), the Cayman Islands Government have confirmed that the Data Protection Law will not come into force at the beginning of January 2019 as originally envisaged, but will instead be delayed until September 2019. The release explains that the delay is a result of a request by the financial services industry in order to give entities further time to ensure compliance with the provisions of the new law. The Attorney General explained that the delay will also allow for an informed public education campaign to allow for greater awareness of the law.
