Peter Broadhurst appointed to working group on data protection

22 August, 2017

Broadhurst LLC is pleased to announce that founding partner Peter Broadhurst will be a contributing member of a “working group” tasked with planning regulations for the Data Protection Law 2017 prior to its implementation in January 2019. Acting Information Commissioner, Jan Liebaers, had the following to say:

I am very pleased that the Cayman Islands is moving forward with this important initiative.  The Data Protection Law will not only protect each individual’s right to privacy by setting expectations for the use of personal data based on the best international standards, but will also make the Cayman Islands an even more attractive place to do business.

The newly reconstituted Data Protection Working Group is comprised of knowledgeable individuals from the public and private sectors committed to making the Data Protection Law work optimally to the benefit of all stakeholders. The continuity of having Peter Broadhurst on the team is an added advantage, since he, like myself, was a member of the original Working Group which drafted the Data Protection Bill passed in the Legislative Assembly in March 2017.”

Peter Broadhurst has extensive expertise in data protection and a detailed insight into the requirements of the new law. Our attorneys are able to provide specialist advice on how your business can prepare itself to be compliant with its obligations under the Data Protection Law 2017.
